Manages all
building system operations for campus Biosafety Level 3 (3 -
3Ag) facilities and laboratories. This individual has
supervisory responsibility over maintenance teams and budgets.
* Prior
supervisory experience is ideal. * Previous experience
with Biosafety Level laboratories is highly desirable. *
HVAC controls experience.
* BS degree in
engineering or engineering technology, preferably mechanical
engineering. * Direct or indirect experience in facility
engineering with a working knowledge of HVAC systems and
building electrical systems. * Valid Georgia driver's
license.
* Knowledge of
current principles and practices of engineering. * Ability
to understand, analyze, and use technical engineering
documents to troubleshoot building systems and component
problems. * Knowledge of building mechanical, electrical,
and plumbing systems with in-depth knowledge of HVAC systems
and controls. * Ability to lead, plan, and supervise the
work of craftsmen. * Ability to communicate clearly and
concisely orally and in writing. * Ability to interpret
and carry out complex oral and written instructions including
the reading and interpretation of technical engineering
documents. * Ability to establish and maintain effective
working relationships with University faculty and staff. *
Ability to use standard office PC applications (word
processing, database, spreadsheets, power point, etc.)
* Primary
duties are performed in an office environment, with some
troubleshooting and systems/equipment diagnostic requirements
requiring the ability to climb, crawl, stoop, etc to perform
duties. * Must be physically fit to perform duties in
emergency situations wearing personal protective equipment and
a respirator. * Must be able to sit at a computer up to 8
hours a day, 5 days a week. * Must be able to access
University buildings.
8:00 a.m. -
5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday; will be required to be on-call for
emergency call backs on a rotating schedule.

Assist the full time maintenance team in
troubleshooting building systems and perform the
maintenance and repair as needed.

Develops and implements specialized
training programs for maintenance teams to safely
perform activities in a BSL environment. Serves as
primary trainer.

Prepares reports, makes presentations,
and maintains documentation concerning BSL facility
conditions, needs, system
certification/re-certification, inspection, calibration,
and other facility related matters.

Establishes 24/7 emergency response
procedures in the event of failures and alarm conditions
affecting BSL facilities and systems. On a rotating
basis with other qualified individuals, serves as first
responder to emergency situations in BSL
facilities.

Keeps up to date on applicable BSL
rules, regulations, procedures, and related new
engineering practices; evaluates their application as it
relates to the University, and incorporates new
techniques to improve operations, safety and ensure
adherence to regulatory requirements. Works with
University Biosafety Officer to ensure compliance and
safe operation of BSL
labs.
